Welcome to your Official Back Pain Specialist Network!Need some good Back Pain Specialist advice? We're here to help!Lower Back Surgery and Back Pain Specialist ServicesInformation on back pain surgery services by the Back Pain Specialist networkfor Lower Back Surgery.Having had lower back surgery I feel there are things to be known that maybe you just don't find out from your doctor or researching online. The first thing is make sure you have a reputable doctor. Check him/her out online, how long they have been performing lower back surgery. Don't feel bad about getting a second opinion. Make sure you are going to the appropriate lower back surgery doctor. Neurosurgeons should be seen first, especially if there is nerve damage involved. If they can't do your surgery let them refer you to a reputable orthopedic surgeon, to possibly perform your lower back surgery. I think the biggest thing people are not prepared for is the extreme pain you have when you come out of the surgery. It is unbelievable, but worth it in the end, later when your back gets better. They keep you a very short amount of time in the hospital for lower back surgery, probably due more to insurance companies than doctors themselves. Some doctors will want to send you home the next day after lower back surgery and you can't even walk yet. Be ready for some pretty bad pain, no matter how much medication they give you, it doesn't take all or even most of the pain away. The first day you're usually on a drip either morphine or Demerol, something along those lines. They tend to tell you a lot of things and since you are still groggy from the anesthesia you probably won't remember much so be sure to have someone with you after your lower back surgery. Have them write down the instructions the nurse gives you and anything the doctor may say. They probably won't remember everything either and they may forget something important. The physical therapy will work wonders after your lower back surgery. It will be a bit painful also, but you should see improvement very quickly. Keep up to your physical therapy exercises for the rest of your life; it will make a huge difference in the way you feel. Take time to heal and don't push yourself too much. Have someone stay with you all the time for the first few days after your lower back surgery procedure, it will make a lot of difference to you.
